MEET THE STAFF...

Te Nikau is governed by a Board of Trustees. The day to day running is carried out by the following people...

Peter & Mary Carrington

Peter & Mary Carrington

Peter is the Director of FREEDOMLIFE. He has worked in the addiction field since 1983. Nine of those years were with the Salvation Army Bridge (Alcohol and Drug Addiction) Programme. For 2 years he was the Programme Manager. His qualifications; Cert. Addiction Studies, Dip. Ministry Development, Certified Substance Abuse Counsellor (USA), MNZAC, MNZCCA. MDAPAANZ.

Peter and Mary are the co-founders of Cross Roads Christian Community Trust, and Te Nikau Training Centre.

Mary has worked as a Communications Officer with the Post Office and Air New Zealand and as a crèche worker. She does course facilitation, the financial accounts and other course administration. She co-ordinates the rosters, appointments, supplies, volunteers, meals, etc.

Leigh Sullivan

Leigh has previously worked in administration and in family businesses. She works part-time doing counselling, group facilitation and general supervision. Leigh holds a Diploma in Counselling (MNZCCA).

Jean Russell

Jean has previously been involved in hospital and rest home administration at regional and national levels. Jean is both a counsellor and clinical supervisor. She works one day a week at Te Nikau. Jean's qualifications; Dip. Couns., Cert. Supervision., MNZAC.

Jean Russell

Maarten is our Property Maintenance man and Support staff. He has been in New Zealand since 2004. In South Africa he studied at Durban Christian Centre Bible College, and spent a year working in an addiction centre. He has primarily worked in Security at local, regional, and national levels, as well as in training. He has also worked in property maintenance, administration and customer service. Maarten is involved in maintenance, support, work sections, recreation, supervision, small group facilitation, etc.

Nicky has previously worked in dairy farming, care-giving, administration and care roles with Manukau Super Clinic, and Early Childhood Education. Nicky is involved in support, administration, study, recreation, etc. Nicky's qualifications: National Cert. in Animal Care, National Cert. in Support for the Elderly. Currently studying for Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Michael and Joy Jackson

Michael is our Programme Manager and Counsellor He has worked for the NZ Post Office, then was self-employed in businesses (appliance retail and telecommunications installation). He is also a church Pastor, worked in the funeral industry, and has been counselling since 2003. Michael is involved in counselling and programme management. His qualifications: Dipl. Counselling (MNZCCA).  Advanced Trade Cert. Construction & Maintenance. Credentialed New Life Minister.

 

Joy is one of our programme staff involved in support, study, recreation, administration, etc. She has worked as a primary school teacher, (Teacher of the year for the Wairarapa Region). She has also been involved in church activities, and their businesses. Joy has a Diploma of Teaching.

Other Volunteers

There are currently 9 other regular volunteers involved in night sleepovers, lunch preparation and office work.
